Backup Practice: Incremental Backup
Change some files:
Open the "My Documents" folder
Open the "Practice Files" folder
Open, change, and save two (or more) files
Insert USB flash drive (or your
last
diskette)
Launch Windows Backup
Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Backup
"Backup or Restore Wizard" starts
Click "Next"
Under "Backup or Restore":
Click "Back up files and settings"
Click "Next"
Under "What to Back Up":
Click "Let me choose what to back up"
Click "Next"
Under "Items to Back Up":
Next to "My Computer", click its plus sign [+]
(Santa Rosa lab classroom only:
Find drive "(T:)", and then click its plus sign [+]. Then:
)
Next to the "My Documents" folder, click its plus sign [+]
Next to "Practice Files" folder, click its check-box [ ] (
not
the plus sign!)
A blue check-mark should appear in the "Practice Files" check-box.
Click "Next"
Under "Backup Type, Destination, and Name" :
At the bottom, under "Type a name for this backup", make sure it shows:
Practice1
Above, under "Choose a place to save your backup":
Click the drop-down arrow, and then select your USB flash drive letter
Click "Next"
Under "Completing the Backup or Restore Wizard":
Do NOT click "Finish" yet!
Click "Advanced"
Under "Type of Backup":
C
lick the drop-down arrow, and then select "
Incremental
"
Click "Next"
Under "How to Back Up":
Click to put a check in the box next to "Verify data after backup"
("Use hardware compression" is not available)
Leave the check box
blank
next to "Disable volume shadow copy"
Click "Next"
Under "Backup Options":
Click "Append this backup to the existing backups"
Click "Next"
Under "When to Back Up"
Click "Now"
Click "Next"
Read the backup settings to confirm they match the above steps
If any settings don't match, click "Advanced," and then repeat the above steps
Click "Finish"
Watch the Backup Progress dialog box finish
Click "Report..." to open the backup log
Check for errors
NOTE
the number of files backed up and verified: it should match the number of files you changed.
Close the backup log window
In the Backup Progress dialog box, click "Close"
