Through CATE, you may connect to the live class session online,
via the CCC Confer/Elluminate service, and play back a session later, through
a link your instructor will put on the main course page. Here's how:
Check the preparation and orientation
steps in the Elluminate
Product Support guide, so that you're familiar with the "Elluminate"
program, and to make sure your computer is ready.
If you are not in the classroom
during a live session, then make sure your computer speakers are on and the
volume turned up enough.
When you click on a Lecture link, you'll get a dialog box
requesting your User Name and Password.
Enter the User Name and Password you chose when you performed
your CATE system check-in. If you don't remember it, use the CATE
Password Reminder page.
Read the description on the next page, and then click the
"Launch..." link.
The Java program "Elluminate" then downloads and
runs.
If you see a page titled "Install Java Web Start",
try just moving down to Step 2 on the page and clicking the "Start
Elluminate Live" button. If that doesn't work, you may need to download
Java first, using Step 1 on that page.
If you see a "License Agreement" dialog box,
click Agree and OK to proceed.
Maximize the Elluminate program window to make it full-screen.
The session should start automatically.
If you are playing back a recording, you'll find controls
at the bottom of the window.
To advance or rewind the recording, drag the track seek
slider right or left.
BUT NOTE: When you try to rewind by dragging the slider
back to the left, you may have to endure a delay, because the Elluminate
program may reload the recording and advance from the start.
Closed Captioning Written Transcripts:
The lectures include a Closed Captioning window, which you can display by
clicking the "CC" button at the top of the Elluminate program window.
While running the session, you may be able to save time
by turning on the "CC" closed caption button, and reading or copying
the transcripts.
The Closed Captioning function displays the text in real
time, approximately synchronized with the audio. You have to start the recording
at the beginning, and immediately click the CC button to open the text window.
You'll see the text begin to appear. Then, you can drag the slider to the
right to fast-forward, and see the text appear rapidly in the window as
the recording catches up. Once the text appears, you can copy and paste
it into another document window.
When you're done with the session, exit or quit the Elluminate
program as you would with any other program.
