  - Can carry viruses
- .xlsx files
  - Made by MS Excel 2007 and later
  - An Office Open XML format
  - Less vulnerable to viruses
  - Older MS Excel cannot read without the Microsoft Compatibility Pack add-in
SYLK: Symbolic Link format
- Preserves most formatting and formulas
- Universal spreadsheet format
- Cannot carry viruses
- Small file size
DIF: Data Interchange Format
- Preserves values only; no formulas or formatting
CSV: Comma-Separated Values
- Preserves values only; no formulas or formatting
