To secure the Windows Internet Explorer web browser, set
the Windows Internet Zone security to "High", following the directions
below.
However, when you use
Firefox version 3 in MS Windows, the Internet "High" security
setting may prevent
downloads of executable files, such as program updates. To permit
Firefox 3 downloads, set "Launching applications and unsafe files"
to "Prompt" as described here.
From the Control Panel or the Internet Explorer Tools
menu, open Internet Options
Click the Security tab
Under "Select a zone...", click Internet
Click the Default Level button:
Drag the slider to High, and then click
the Apply button:
Now click the "Custom level..."
button:
In the "Security Settings - Internet Zone" dialog
box, scroll down into the "Miscellaneous" section (with the blue
"e" icons), and change
"Launching applications and unsafe files" from
"Disable" to "Prompt (recommended)":
Click OK to apply and return to Internet Options
Click OK to apply and dismiss the Internet Options box
